MAL DE DEBARQUEMENT SYNDROME

Mal de Debarquement Syndrome is a rare and misunderstood balance disorder. There is no known reason for onset and no known cure. This condition most often occurs after a cruise or other motion experience. After disembarking the ship, plane or other vehicle, a person most often feels a persistent rocking sensation, a feeling that may last for many years. There are a multitude of symptoms that are experienced by those suffering from this condition.

Since our brains are constantly adapting and readapting to new stimuli, it is believed that MdDS is the result of the brain not recognizing that a person is back on solid ground after experiencing some form of motion. As a result, one’s sense of balance is no longer accurate. In essence, a person has lost their stability and continues to feel as though they are in motion.

More information can be found about this syndrome by going to our web site at www.nhffoundations.net/mdds.
