NIH News in Health

The August issue of NIH News in Health, the monthly newsletter bringing you practical health news and tips based on the latest NIH research, is now online at http://newsinhealth.nih.gov/.

NIH Public Bulletin

The NIH Public Bulletin announces public activities and events that are held by NIH institutes and centers in the Washington, D.C., area and throughout the country. To learn about events in your community, health-related resources for the public, and new NIH publications, visit the August issue at: http://getinvolved.nih.gov/newsbulletins/default.asp?issue=August2005.

NIH Senior Health

Two new topics called "Problems with Smell" and "Problems with Taste" have been added to NIH Senior Health, a Web site designed for older adults that features large-print type sizes, open-captioned videos, and an audio version. Other available topics on communication disorders include "Balance Problems" and "Hearing Loss." The topics were contributed by NIDCD in collaboration with the National Institute on Aging (NIA) and the National Library of Medicine (NLM).

First Annual NIH Director's Pioneer Award Symposium -- Thursday, September 29, 2005

Save the date for an exciting symposium featuring individual talks and a roundtable discussion by the 2004 Pioneer Award recipients as well as the announcement of the 2005 awardees.

The NIH Director's Pioneer Award program -- a key component of the NIH Roadmap for Medical Research -- supports scientists of exceptional creativity who propose pioneering approaches to major challenges in biomedical research.

The event will be held in Masur Auditorium of the Clinical Center (Building 10) on the NIH campus in Bethesda, MD. The symposium will begin at 8:15 a.m. with remarks by NIH Director Elias A. Zerhouni, M.D., and end at 3 p.m. Attendance is free, and no registration is required.
