TWO GRANTS ARE AVAILABLE FOR 2010 FROM NOHR

Grant #1: Annual NOHR Research Awards ($20,000 for one year)

In January 2010, The National Organization for Hearing Research Foundation will award grants of approximately $20,000 each, primarily in the form of Seed Money, for exploration into innovative biomedical research areas in the preventions, causes, treatments and cures of hearing loss and deafness. NOHR encourages proposals related to biological restoration of hearing.

Clinicians and researchers qualified in the field of auditory science may apply. Applications from researchers in other disciplines who will conduct research directly relevant to auditory science are also encouraged. Grant support is provided for one year. Applications are reviewed by the NOHR Foundation's Scientific Review Committee.

The deadline for submission of applications is October 9, 2009.

Grant #2: Two-Year NOHR Stria Vascularis Project ($25,000/year for two years)

The National Organization for Hearing Research requests proposals for a two-year project concerned with hearing loss whose underlying basis is a disruption of lateral wall homeostasis. The proposed studies should involve strial or spiral ligament pathologies that have a genetic, vascular or metabolic origin. Research with potential translational significance is encouraged. Applications will be reviewed by a special ad hoc Scientific Review Committee.

The award will be funded at the level of $25,000/year for a period of two years, beginning in January 2010. At the conclusion of the first year, there will be an interim review by the Scientific Review Committee to evaluate the recipient's progress. Funding for year two will be contingent on satisfactory reviews.

The deadline for submission of applications is October 9, 2009.
