REQUEST FOR RESEARCH PROPOSALS

RNID is a leading supporter of hearing research. We fund research all around the world to understand the causes of hearing loss and tinnitus, develop new treatments and improve existing technology.

Research Grant proposals are invited within the following areas:

1) Tinnitus

Forward looking research that will contribute to our goal of alleviating tinnitus.

Projects that aim to understand the biological causes, discover novel ways of preventing/treating tinnitus, or evaluate the efficacy of new treatments are encouraged.

2) Restoration of hearing

Innovative research that will contribute to the biological restoration of hearing. Projects that aim to reveal molecular pathways that could be exploited to trigger regeneration or those that will advance drug, gene- or cell-based approaches to restoring hearing are encouraged.

3) Clinical research

Robust clinical research in any area of otology or audiology that will benefit people with hearing loss or tinnitus. Projects that seek to either improve the effectiveness of existing treatments and diagnostics or test the efficacy of new approaches are strongly encouraged.

4) Applications may also be considered for proposals outside of these subject areas if the research will benefit people with hearing loss or tinnitus. If applying under this category, applicants must submit a brief summary of the proposed project in advance of a full application to check its suitability.

Additional notes for applicants:

  • Applications within the tinnitus category are strongly encouraged and we intend to award at least one project within this category.
  • Projects must be defined pieces of research with clearly stated objectives, experimental plan and expected outcomes.
  • Priority will be given to projects that include a clinical or commercial collaborator.

Duration: Up to three years.

Value: Up to £50,000 per year. This may be exceeded for exceptional projects.

Part funding: Joint funding of larger projects in partnership with other charitable organisations, government or industry will be considered.

Eligibility: Applicants may be from any country.

Assessment: Proposals will be peer reviewed and assessed by a panel of UK experts.

Deadline: Proposals should be submitted by 23 March 2007.
