RNID: REQUEST FOR RESEARCH
PROPOSALS
RNID is the largest UK charity representing
people with hearing loss and tinnitus.
We fund research all around the world to
understand the causes of hearing loss and tinnitus,
develop new treatments and improve existing
technology.
Research proposals are now invited within the
following areas:
1) Silencing tinnitus
Innovative research that will, either:
- Improve basic understanding of the
biological basis of tinnitus
- Contribute to the development of
interventions to alleviate tinnitus
- Evaluate the efficacy of new treatments
2) Protecting hearing
Robust research that will, either
- Increase basic knowledge of the biological
processes associated with all types of deafness
and hearing loss
- Develop therapeutic strategies to protect
hearing
- Advance technology for delivering
therapeutic agents to the inner ear.
3) Restoring hearing
Cutting edge research that will, either
- Discover and characterise molecular pathways
that could be manipulated to trigger
regeneration of damaged cell types.
- Advance drug or gene therapy based
approaches to manipulating pathways within the
inner ear.
- Contribute to cell-based approaches to
replacing damaged cells.
4) Applications may also be considered for
proposals outside of these subject areas if the
research will benefit people with hearing loss or
tinnitus. If applying under this category,
applicants must submit a brief summary of the
proposed project (instructions given below) in
advance of the full application to check its
suitability.
