OBITUARY: BHAGYALAKSHMI (RANI)
SHIVAPUJA

Rani Shivapuja, Ph.D., a long time member of ARO
and auditory neuroscientist and audiologist died of
brain hemorrhage on Sept. 1, 2009. After receiving
her MA degree in Audiology from Western Michigan
University she went on to earn a Ph.D. in
Communicative Disorders from the University of
Texas at Dallas. Afterwards, she spent 2 years as
a post-doctoral fellow in the Dept. of
Otolaryngology at the University of Minnesota. In
1990, she was appointed as the Director of Research
in the Dept. of Otolaryngology at Henry Ford
Hospital in Detroit, MI, but retired from this
position in 1998 due to health problems. Her
research focused on auditory physiology, middle ear
mechanics, psychoacoustics, cochlear blood flow and
ototoxic drugs. She will be missed by her many
friends and colleagues.
