Resident / Medical Student Travel Awards
APPLICATIONS FOR ARO RESIDENT/MEDICAL STUDENT TRAVEL AWARDS NOW BEING ACCEPTED
The Association for Research in Otolaryngology (ARO) announces that applications are now being accepted for travel awards for residents and medical students in the field of Otolaryngology to attend the 2012 ARO MidWinter Meeting being held February 25-29 in San Diego, California. Awards of $500 are being offered to defray travel and lodging costs associated with attendance at the ARO's annual meeting. The winners of the ARO Travel Awards will be selected by the Physicians Research Training Committee appointed by the ARO President. Applicants need not be a member of ARO.
The purpose of the award is to encourage residents and medical students to become active in the ARO and to promote interaction between MD's and PhD's as well as clinical and basic researchers in the field of Otolaryngology. Travel awards are made possible in part by grants from the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) of the National Institutes of Health, the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Foundation, and the Collegium Oto-Rhino-Laryngologicum Amicitiae Sacrum - US Group, Inc.
Individuals selected will be judged according to the following criteria:
- Applicants must be residents or medical students (Post-doctoral clinical or research fellows are not eligible for this award.)
- Career goals directed toward academic practice
Prospective candidates should submit the following for consideration:
- A letter from the applicant stating desire, need and qualifications for the award based on the stated criteria
- A copy of the submitted abstract for poster or paper presentation at the 2012 ARO MidWinter Meeting. The original must be submitted via the World Wide Web by the abstract deadline.
- Curriculum vitae
- Letter of recommendation from the department chairman including a guarantee of matching funds of an equal amount **
** NOTE: If more than one applicant comes from a program, the chairman must prioritize the applicants.
