MISSION
The ARO wishes to enhance information transfer
among researchers, clinicians, and the patient
communities that ultimately benefit from the
scientific advances presented at ARO. These patient
communities are represented by a variety of Patient
Advocacy Groups [PAGs]. There are four
primary goals:
- to EDUCATE the public in understanding
relevant technology and treatment issues
- to generate increased PUBLIC SUPPORT for
research funding, both from the federal
government and private sectors
- to foster RAPID DISSEMINATION of scientific
discoveries into specific technological advances
(e.g., biomedical technology such as hearing
aids, tinnitus suppression, cochlear implants)
or treatment protocols
- To promote INFORMATION TRANSFER between the
ARO and PAGs. This information transfer must be
an equal sharing of knowledge and experience,
rather than one-way (from scientist-to-PAG).
This will lead to new ideas about research
needs.
