The School of Communication Sciences
and Disorders in the Faculty of Health Sciences at
The University of Western Ontario invites
applications for a probationary (tenure-track)
position, at the rank of Assistant Professor, in
Audiology. The successful candidate will be a
member of the National Centre for Audiology (NCA).
The successful candidate will be responsible for
developing and sustaining a dynamic program of
research, teaching at the graduate and senior
undergraduate levels, participating in the
activities of the School of Communication Sciences
and Disorders and the NCA and providing service in
support of relevant university and community
activities. The successful candidate will be
expected to be an active participant in one or more
graduate research education and training
programs.
Candidates must hold a PhD degree in
Communication Sciences and Disorders, Audiology,
Auditory Neuroscience, or a related relevant field;
post-doctoral research experience will be an asset.
Candidates must provide evidence of ability to
develop and to sustain an independent program of
externally funded research. Preference will be
given to individuals with demonstrated clinical
experience and expertise in cochlear implant,
vestibular processes, or tinnitus.
The School of Communication Sciences
and Disorders offers graduate-level studies in the
professions of Audiology and Speech-Language
Pathology, leading to a Master of Clinical Science
(MClSc) degree. Faculty in the School also
participate in a multidisciplinary Masters (MSc)
and doctoral program in Health and Rehabilitation
Sciences including the field of Hearing Science.
The Faculty of Health Science is the home of the
NCA, a major research facility that supports a
range of research programs in Audiology and Hearing
Sciences. Faculty in the NCA work collaboratively
with researchers and clinicians from several
Faculties and Programs outside of the Faculty of
Health Science including those in the Department of
Otolaryngology in the Schulich School of Medicine
and Dentistry. The School of Communication Sciences
and Disorders maintains the research-oriented,
in-house H.A. Leeper Speech and Hearing Clinic that
provides for the assessment and treatment of
hearing, speech and language disorders in children
and adults.

The Auditory Perception Research
Laboratory at the VA Northern California Clinic is
searching for a co-director to oversee ongoing
research programs developing improved tests of
peripheral and central auditory processing and
training procedures for hearing rehabilitation
following aging, hearing loss, and traumatic brain
injury. This is a full-time research position at
the equivalent of Assistant or Associate Professor
Level with up to three years of salary and research
support deriving from existing research grants. The
applicant is expected to develop successful
independent research programs during the 3-yr
period.
The applicant will join a productive
team of investigators who study auditory
neuroscience and hearing rehabilitation (see
www.ebire.org/hcnlab
for additional information). Post-doctoral
training, evidence of research productivity, and
prior grant funding are highly desirable. Resources
include sound booths and testing rooms for
physiological, psychophysical and behavioral
experiments, DPOAE and ABR recording systems, a
B&K HATS system, and auditory stimulation
systems for fMRI experimentation. Other hardware
includes a Philips Eclipse 1.5T MRI scanner (to be
upgraded to 3T in 2009), Bio-semi EEG and ERP
recording systems, a Magstim TMS stimulator, and an
SR eye tracking systems. Opportunities exist for UC
faculty appointments and collaborations with
scientists at UC Davis and UC Berkeley. US
citizenship is preferred. Salary: $70,000-$100,000
depending on experience. Interested candidates

further develop hearing sciences within the Lower
Saxonian "Centre for Hearing Research". The
following position can be filled starting from 1
May 2008:
Professor of Cochlea/Brainstem
Physiology (W2)
We seek outstanding candidates with
an established research program in auditory
physiology on the cellular or systemic level. The
successful applicant will have an international
reputation and a record of external funding. We are
particularly interested in applicants focusing on
the mammalian auditory system. Research
participation within the DFG-funded transregional
collaborative research centre SFB/TRR 31 "The
Active Auditory System" and contributions to the
International Graduate School "Neurosensory
Science, Systems and Applications" are desired.
The successful applicant will teach
courses in the BSc and MSc program in "biology", in
the MSc program "Audiology and Hearing Technology"
and in the PhD program in "Neurosensory Science and
Systems". A reduced teaching load until the end of
2012 allows developing a strong research
program.
Qualifications are specified in
§25 NHG.
Since the Universities of Bremen and
Oldenburg have concluded a cooperation agreement,
active contributions to this cooperation are
desirable.

The School of Audiology and Speech
Sciences at The University of British Columbia has
an opening for a tenure-track position at the rank
of Assistant Professor, starting July 1, 2008.
Primarily located in Vancouver, a vibrant
multicultural city renowned for its natural beauty,
UBC is among the best and largest of Canada's
universities. The School (www.audiospeech.ubc.ca)
is expanding, with new faculty on board, new lab
spaces in place, and a significant space expansion
occurring Summer 2008. In addition to Ph.D. and
post-doctoral education, the School offers an
intensive two-to-three-year program of graduate
coursework (Audiology and Speech-Language
Pathology), research, and supervised
community-based clinical practice leading to the
M.Sc. degree. Duties of the new faculty member will
include: research; instruction in the area of child
language, developmental language disorders and
clinical practice; and University/School service.
The successful applicant will have a Ph.D. or
equivalent degree, evidence of scholarly
excellence, and demonstrated potential in teaching
excellence at the undergraduate and graduate level.
Applicants must have expertise in child language
and developmental language disorders. Preference
will be given to candidates who meet these
criteria, and also have a clinical qualification
that conforms to Canadian Standards for practice in
speech-language pathology. Salary will be

The School of Audiology at
Pennsylvania College of Optometry invites
applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor
for its Au.D. degree program. Interest in
amplification is desirable but not required.
Interest and experience in teaching in any and all
areas of audiology are welcome.
This is a 12-month tenure-track
appointment. The successful candidate will hold a
doctoral degree in audiology and be eligible for
Pennsylvania State Licensure. ABD candidates will
be considered if the degree will be completed
within one year of appointment. Particular
consideration will be given to candidates with a
strong record of teaching and clinical experience.
Responsibilities also include student recruitment
and advisement, service to the department and
college, student supervision in the Pennsylvania
Ear Institute, and development of a research

EPITHELIAL BIOLOGY

tenure-track faculty position at the ASSISTANT,
ASSOCIATE or FULL PROFESSOR level in epithelial
biology. All aspects of epithelial biology are
welcome as is the use of model genetic systems.
Relevant faculty research programs include
epithelial cell junctions, epithelial polarity, ion
channel biology, membrane transport, flagellar
dynamics, molecular motors, among many others in
cell, developmental and neurobiology. The
successful applicant will be a member of the
Department of Cell Biology as well as the Emory
Center for Respiratory Health. Within the past ten
years, the Department of Cell Biology has recruited
ten new investigators, including a new Chair, and
is housed in the new Whitehead Biomedical Research

Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders
at Northwestern University has been at the
forefront of audiology research, development, and
education since the inception of the field. The
department currently houses research laboratories
studying hearing and hearing loss, vibrant PhD and
AuD programs, and a state-of-the-art hearing clinic
that provides clinical education and services to
the greater Chicago area. We are seeking a dynamic
leader to integrate these strengths via
translational research as well as innovatively
expand the scope of clinical services and
education. This nine-month, tenure-track position
is based on the Evanston campus. Preferred starting
date is September 1, 2008.
Duties: (a) promotion of applied
research individually as well as in collaboration
with other faculty members in the department
leading to extramural funding; (b) intellectual and
executive direction of the audiology clinic with a
view to expand educational and service
opportunities to new domains; (c) teaching in the

Qualifications: PhD and clinical

The Department of Physiology and
Biophysics at the University of Colorado School of
Medicine invites applications for a tenure-eligible
faculty position at the Assistant Professor level
in the areas of molecular, cellular, or systems
neuroscience. We are particularly interested in
candidates who explore physiological mechanisms
using innovative techniques in electrophysiology,
biophysics, photonics, and/or bioengineering. We
expect the appointee to conduct vigorous
independent research and participate in
professional and graduate training.
The new appointee will be part of an
actively expanding Department (http://www.uchsc.edu/physiology/).
We recently moved to a new state-of-the-art
research facility at the Anschutz Medical Campus

and will appoint up to three new faculty members
over the next three years. Current faculty in the
Department have research programs in systems
neuroscience, sensory physiology, developmental
neurobiology, synaptic function, cell signaling,
ion transport and channel biology, and endocrine
and reproductive physiology. We especially
encourage candidates with research interests that
complement and extend existing research in the
Department to apply. Additional scientific
interactions occur within the interdepartmental
programs: Neuroscience; Cell, Stem Cell, and
Developmental Biology; Reproductive Science;
Molecular Biology; Biomolecular Structure; Cancer
Biology; and Immunology. Many of these programs
have associated core facilities. For example, the
Neuroscience Program provides its members with core
facilities in light and electron microscopy, and
mouse and zebrafish gene manipulation technologies

downtown campus of University of Colorado
