RESEARCHER, SWALLOW PHYSIOLOGY RESEARCH PROGRAM

The Department of Surgery, Division of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery is seeking a researcher to direct the Swallow Physiology research program in the laboratory of Timothy McCulloch, MD. The incumbent will be involved in research design and analysis of swallow physiology using high resolution manometry, videofluoroscopy, electromyography, and endoscopy. This individual will be responsible for coordinating data collection and data analysis, including training and mentoring student researchers. Further, this position will assist in grant writing in an effort to attract extramural funding. This individual will present data at local, regional and national meetings, independently review literature, and design appropriate research methodologies, techniques and procedures. The incumbent will pursue collaborations with other researchers on the UW campus and co-author research proposals for grant submission as well as manuscripts for presentation and publication. The incumbent will oversee compliance with all Institutional Review Board guidelines for ethical conduct of research.

MS or PhD in Communication Sciences and Disorders, Physiology, or related field is required. Relevant lab, research, or clinical experience is also preferred.

Job Description: We are seeking a talented scientist to join our cell and development biology research program. The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team applying various state-of-the-art techniques including tissue/organotypical culture, functional genomics, transgenic/knock out mice, high content image analysis, etc to various research projects.

Minimum requirements: This position requires a Ph.D. or Master degree in Cell and Developmental Biology, or a Medical degree in Otolaryngology. Hands-on experience with primary tissue culture and small animal surgery are required. Previous experience with inner ear tissue dissection is a plus. The successful candidate should be highly motivated and enjoy working in a collaborative environment with strong experience in molecular and cellular biology.
